Manual focussing

The Vivitar 70-150mm f3.8 manual focussing zoom turns out to be a very sharp lens, espacially when stopped down to f5.6 and above.
This object sits in my kitchen, in the window. I like the colors, the DOF and the sharpness.
What more can i wish for, the lens changed owners for 25 euro's.
Ok one wish, A D300 or above because my D90 doesn't meter the light and makes me do testshots, but in time my guess for shuttertimes will improve(i hope).
Shot Info: iso 200 - f8 - 1/100 - between 70-150mm (really can't remember).

Next to this i started using border for my shots, at first i didn't like a border much, but after some experimenting, it's nice!
i use Bordermaker 4.1, free and handy.

Manual Focus again.

Today i received my second Manual Focus lens.
It is a Vivitar 70-150mm 1:3.8 macro focussing zoom.
Well macro, focus minimal distance is 90 cm, so not real macro.
Got this through marktplaats, just like the Panagor.
Looks good, didnt test it yet.
Results will follow.

Reflections

Reflections. An experimental shot.
Not to unhappy with the result myself.
I like the colors inside compared to the white outside seen in the reflection.
Shot Info: iso 200 - f8 - 1/50 - 38mm

Shot this picture at my love's house at night.
I like the straight lines and the bend reflections of the hall in the vase.

Yesterday i went to ''Radio Kootwijk''.
It was a sunny day and i took the D90 with me to work. After work i drove to Kootwijk on a icy road.
The picture above is the last one i shot before i went back home, stone cold....
Edited a bit in Capture NX2, only contrast and brightness and i cropped it a bit.
Shot info: iso 200 - f22 - 1/100 - 50mm

Another contest @ Tweakers.net.
This 2 week assignment was ''art''.
So i went out and shot the above photo. Edited in Capture NX2.
This is the result.

Usually i don't use flash. I did in this photo.
Result is quite nice in my opinion, detailed.
Also the DOF is ok.
So i am happy with the result.
The grip is being a great add on, also on this picture it was
on the camera and it won't be coming off soon i guess.
Shot info: iso 200 - f5.6 - 1/60 -105mm

After my purchase of the grip i went to a place near my home to take some pictures of the deserted hospital. The sun was just starting to find it's way through the clouds.
So i aimed and shot the above picture.
I came home stone cold freezing fingers of, but this result made me smile!
Shot Info:
iso 200 - 1/640 - f14 - 105mm

Went to one of the local photography stores today. One i never visit for buying because its the most expensive in my city. But this MB-D80 grip was on sale i guess, cheapest i could find in, well the whole country ;)
Fitted the grip on the D90, damn its big, but what a good hold i have now on the D90.
In the near future aquire a second battery for more juice and it's complete.

Winter in Holland

Snow, Snow and even More Snow.
Seems Nature can't get enough this winter.
But for us photographers....
Nice shots to be taken, but beware snow and dslr's don't mix that good.
Snow gives a new way of taking pictures, metering is more difficult.

Panagor 135mm f2.8 MF / Nikon f-mount
Bought this Manual Focus trough Marktplaats for the small amount of 20 euro.

On the D90 i have to adjust everything, metering, diafragma is not a big problem. Manual focussing is the hard part.
The bokeh seems sweet, the CA is visable when @ 100% crop(only tested f2.8).
When i have something wich i think is a good picture from this lens i'll show it here.

Winter was upon us. I didn't have the oppertunity to visit the forest with sunshine. The day i grabbed my camera it was grey and sad(and cold).
With the above picture i try to show that feeling.
I called it '' Path to......''
You fill in the blanks.
Edited this using brightness and contrast sliders in Capture NX2

Sunset, a bit to late....

And there was the snow. Unfortunately i didnt have much time to grab the D90 and go into nature.
Today my workday ended at 15.45, so in the dark morning around 6.30 i grabbed my gear and left for work. The idea was to go to ''Hoog Buurlo'' after work.
First i went to my love first to talk for 10 minutes and than i left for nature.
As the above picture illustrates i was in time, but to late. On my trip to Hoog Buurlo i could see a great sky. The sky was 3 times more colorful than as you can see in the photo above, ah well.
I will try again in the near future. Also no snow in this picture. I shot photos for like 10 minutes of the sunset and my hands were freezing by than. It was -10 degrees in an open place in the wind, so not that nice for my fingers, i couldnt control the shutter after 10 minutes out there.
Shot Info: iso 200 - 1/200 - f8 - 50mm

Week contest GOT forums

A contest @ Gathering of Tweakers forum made me think over what i would compose for a good picture. In the end a visit to my mothers appartment gave me the picture i was looking for. The subject was ''light''. U are allowed to interpretate this subject wich i did.
2 candles is light, an Angel is enlightment, isnt it?
So there was the idea. Myself, i am kinda happy with the result.
Shot Info: iso 200 - f13 - 0.77sec - 50mm.

Working with the 50mm

I shot this picture @ Alba. Wich is a place near my town were there used to be a factory. They gave it back to nature. I was trying to isolate the grass from the rest creating a small dof. I am not disappointed with this result, though it would have been nice if the grass was more sharp. It was a very windy day so even at this high shutterspeed i can see movement.
Shot info: iso 200/f4/1:1250/50mm, cropped and added a bit of contrast in Capture NX2.

50mm Prime

About 3 weeks ago i bought myself a second hand Nikor AF 50mm f1.8 D.
It came with a HS-9 Metal Lenshood and a Hoya Super Pro1 52mm UV[0]filter.
I was walking around with a moderate zoom lens since i bought the D90. So it was at first difficult getting used to using the zoom in my feet or backing up because i was to close. But i wanted to learn the use of a prime. The DOF/Bokeh it promised me was a real surprise. Getting a nice bokeh with the 18-105 was possible but with this prime it is amazing. Besides, it is way sharper from roughly f2.8 and up. So i am still in a steep learning curve but i think i am getting the first results i am looking for.

First Blog Entry

Today i decided to start a blog. Since September 2009 i decided to give myself a cam upgrade to a DSLR. After using a Panasonic FZ28 since february 2009 i really ran into it's limitations.

So i read and even read more about DSLR and after weeks of Canon vs Nikon, i decided on a Nikon D90. Of course no regrets there.
It came with the 18-105mm VR kitlens.

In following blog entries i will post pictures of the gear and pictures i have been taking since i have this beauty of a camera. For now included picture are my daughters hands. Needless to say that i love editing on the computer much to.
